“The passion of Christ” remains not only a masterpiece, but the best documentary on the life and death of Jesus.
The role of Jesus was played by James Patrick Caviezel, who took a lot of risk in acting his role.
The American actor said it wasn’t an easy task because he had to endure the strokes during the scene in which he was whipped, explaining that they were real lashes.
Caviezel, 52, in his testimony at ‘the Rock Church’ San Diego, said when he was given the first lash, his skin tore off.
In his own words, “The whip went over and I had a 14 inch gash on my back, I went right down like in a football game when you get the wind knocked out of you. I saw God”.
In another scene, the one in which he carried the cross on his way to Golgotha, the actor claimed he felt a dark presence come over him, telling him he’s a dead man, but said he wasn’t perturbed at that moment because he felt if he died there, he would go to heaven.
He stressed that it was God’s Providence that allowed him to endure and suffer those injuries so as to portray Christ’s passion in a deep and real way.
The shocking part of his testimony was where he revealed how he was struck by lightning while he was hung on the cross.
