The Delta State Waste Management Board has evacuated the huge heaps of refuse at the illegal dump site on Anwai – Illah road in the State Capital Territory.
The Board has gone ahead to prohibit further dumping of refuse at the unapproved dump site, with a notice of N100,000 fine for any violator.
The Chairman of the Board, Honourable Emmanuel Chinye, who supervised the evacuation, said the agency would not rest until illegal dumping of refuse was nipped in the bud across the state.
Chinye said the evacuation of the dump site became necessary because the heaps of refuse had become an eye sore to residents of DELSU Anwai Campus Community and road users, pointing out that those who dumped refuse at the illegal site were persons who had refused to resisted with the Private Sector Participants for home collection of their waste.
The Waste Management Board Chairman stated that the establishment would continue with its sensitization and enforcement campaign to ensure that every resident of the state registered with the PSPs.
He warned those who dumped refuse at the reclaimed site to desist from further act of lawlessness and key into the PSP project as anyone caught would bear the full weight of the law.
Chinye particularly cautioned truck and wheel barrow pushers often hired to dump waste at illegal dump sites to be mindful of the consequences of their action, explaining that any truck or wheel barrow pusher caught would be prosecuted.
On the situation in other parts of the state, the Waste Management Board helmsman expressed worry at the filthy condition of Uvwie and Warri, just as he stated that he was impressed with the situation in Agbor.
He commended the Private Sector Participants across the state for being progressive partners in the management of waste, assuring them of the continued support of the Board under his watch.
