MOF LEADS PANEL DISCUSSION ON POST COVID – 19 IMPACT ON WOMEN, GIRLS

A Non Governmental Organisation, Monu – Olarewaju Foundation, has called for sustainable, integrated and innovative measures to address post COVID – 19 impact on women and the girl child.


The founder and initiator of the Foundation. Honourable (Barr) Chinwe Monu – Olarewaju, made the call in her remark at a panel discussion programme organised by the organisation for critical stakeholders in development.


Honourable Olarewaju said the COVID – 19 pandemic had adversely affected every sphere of human life, stressing that it was imperative for development experts to brainstorm on the way forward beyond the COVID – 19 era, particularly as it concerned women and the girl child.


She said the invitation of the Office of Sustainable Development Goals, Civil Society Organisation and other partners, was to make for a robust generation of ideas that would help women and the girl child get back on their feet after the COVID – 19 era and urged the participants to take the programme seriously.


MOF founder said the organisation, which came into existence in 2003 had embarked on educational, health, economic, entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development programmes across the six geo – political zones of the country aimed at unlocking the potentials of women and girls.


Honourable Olarewaju added that in March this year, the Foundation made food and cash donations to the vulnerable, the Omus, Community Development Unions, widows and the elderly to cushion the effect of the COVID – 19 pandemic in the Aniocha/ Oshimili Federal Constituency and beyond.


She expressed optimism that at the end of the panel discussion, the missing links, gaps and challenges would have been identified and the capacity to synergize, network, collaborate and build bridged developed towards ensuring that no woman or girl child was left behind.


There were presentations on the Impact of COVID – 19 On The SDGs (Agenda 2030 Implementation and Achievement) by an SDG Consultant, Augusta Impact, Civil Society Organisations Intervention, Impact, Challenges and The Way Forward In COVID – 19 and Post COVID – 19 Era.


The founder and initiator of Monu – Olarewaju Foundation, Honourable (Barr) Chinwe Monu – Olarewaju, also presented a paper on Unlocking the Potentials of Women and Girls, Impact of Post COVID – 19.


The event was attended by the Commandant General of the Eagle Chaplain Corps, Reverend Obi Sylvester and representatives of various women groups, including the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ)
