The Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Honourable Ochor Christopher Ochor, has commended the  state government for proposing a Joint Security Outfit for the state,

Ochor, in a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Emmanuel Enebeli, in Asaba, said the proposal was thoughtful and timely as it would help to address the increasing insecurity in the state.

He noted that the establishment of the security outfit, to be known as “Operation Delta Hawk” was in tandem with good governance, as the safety of lives and property of the people was a key responsibility of government.

The Deputy Speaker stated that reports of violent crimes recorded in some parts of the state in the past few weeks such as kidnapping, armed robbery, farmers – herders clashes, among others, did not speak well of safety in the state as lives had been lost, causing the people to live in fear.

Ochor recalled that the South – South Governors, had in their Security Summit in Asaba last year, agreed to ensure adequate security in their respective states following the increasing rate of insecurity, pointing out that the proposed ” Operation Delta Hawk ” was in the aftermath of the Summit, as conceived by the state Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.

He said peace and security had remained the key components of the Okowa administration’s policy thrust, stressing that they were instrumental to the success of the SMART agenda of the administration in its first tenure and  were imperative in the government’s quest for a, Stronger Delta.

The Deputy Speaker pledged the support of the State Assembly for the proposed Security Outfit, assuring that the House would give due consideration to the bill for a law to set up the ” Operation Delta Hawk “, as it was in tandem with the Assembly’s function of making laws for the peace, order and good governance of the state.

Ochor solicited the collaboration of the security agencies with the proposed security architecture to guarantee greater safety of lives and property of citizens, and ensure a conducive environment for investment to thrive in the state for the overall good of the people.
