The Delta State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has been urged to fish out the killers of the spokesman of an Ijaw Rights Group, the Ijaw Interest Advocate, IIA, Famous Bonikiri – Ebi.
Famous was allegedly shot by suspected armed robbers on Monday, on Udu road, Udu, Delta state, in the presence of his wife, in a scuffle over his car keys.
The Publicity Secretary – elect of the foremost Ijaw group, the Ijaw National Congress, INC, Engineer. Oyakemeagbegha Ezonebi, made the call while reacting to the gruesome murder of the illustrious son of the Ijaw nation.
Engineer Ezonebi said the killing was a reflection of the level of insecurity in the country, adding that it showed that the police needed to do more to ensure the safety of lives and property of law-abiding citizens.
The INC spokesman – elect called for a thorough investigation into the incident with a view to bringing the perpetrators to book and restoring the confidence of the people in the police.
He described Famous Bonikiri – Ebi as a resourceful young man who believed in the Ijaw cause and would be greatly missed, stressing that his murder was shocking and unfortunate.
Engineer Ezonebi commended the state government for proposing the setting up of a Joint Security Outfit to complement the efforts of the police at crime-fighting and control, saying the move was long overdue.
