Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has prohibited Senior members of his administration, including members of the State Executive Council, from accompanying persons with political ambitions for the 2023 elections on consultations.
The prohibition, which is till further notice, is contained in a statement issued by the Senior Political Adviser to the Governor,. Honourable Funkekeme Solomon, which viewed such action as distractive and unacceptable, adding that it could cause division in the State Executive Council.
The Governor warned that any senior official of the state government still found accompanying any politician on consultations for the 2023 elections would be sanctioned.
It will be recalled that the Governor, in an earlier statement issued on February 20,.2020, entitled: Political Activities Ahead of 2023 Elections: “A Call For Caution”, had observed that some members of his administration had begun consultations on their political ambitions for the 2023 general elections. barely nine months into the second term of his administration.
The Governor had noted that such consultations amounted to hasty and premature politicking capable of undermining the unity of purpose of government and called on officials of his administration to exercise restraints in pursuing their political ambitions
