The Chairman of the Delta State Waste Management Board, Honourable Emmanuel Chinye, has expressed satisfaction with the way the Ughelli dump site is being managed.

Chinye, who visited the dump site for an on the spot assessment of the situation there, noted that the Private Sector Participants were maximally utilizing the dump site, with enough space still available to accommodate more waste.

He said the dump site was serving the purpose for which it was set up as the illegal dump sites which existed in the area in the past had all disappeared, with the aggressive sensitization campaign mounted by the Board to get residents to key into the PSP project.

While urging the PSPs in Ughelli not to relent, the Waste Management Board Chairman called on the scavengers at the dump site to conduct themselves in an orderly manner to ensure that the site was always in good shape.

At the Agbarho dump site, Honourable Chinye also commended the PSPs for making proper use of the site, which had encouraged residents of the area to key into the private sector waste collection initiative.

He assured that the State Waste Management Board under his watch would continue to maintain its dump sites across the state to ensure an effective and efficient waste management system.

Honourable Chinye was also at the illegal dump site at the NNPC premises, where he ordered the immediate closure of the site and warned that further dumping of refuse at the site would attract severe sanctions.

He was accompanied by the Director in charge of operations in the Board, Mr Michael Esegba.
