In response to an appeal by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to all stakeholders to join in creating awareness on the precautionary measures that will prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in Delta state, a former member of the State House of Assembly, Honourable Chinwe Monu – Olarewaju on Saturday at Ogwa Ukwu Ahaba, organised a sensitization programme targeted mainly a children.
Honourable Olarewaju, a Barrister – at – Law. said the campaign was at the instance of the Asaba Development Union (worldwide), which the Women’s Wing (Home Based) did not hesitate to key into in view of the global devastating effect of COVID – 19.
She explained that the target at children was due to their vulnerability and numerical strength, adding that their safety and protection was paramount to any society.
The State Health Educator, Mrs Ijeoma Popo, who educated the people on the proper hand washing process, said good personal hygiene was important at this critical time of the coronavirus pandemic, stressing that the state government had taken every necessary step to ensure the state did not record any case of the disease.
Mrs Popo said besides hand washing, people should practice social distancing, use hand sanitizers where affordable, avoid crowded places, avoid hand shaking and hugging, as well as seek help in emergency health situations.
The State Health Educator commended Honourable Olarewaju and members of her group for organizing the sensitization programme as part of community service, saying that it was complementary to the efforts of government to keep coronavirus away from the state.
Others who spoke, including Dr. Samuel Monu, Dr. Charles Eboka of the Oshimili South Health Authority, the Health Educator in Oshimili south, Mrs. Doris Isibor and Konwea Christopher, alluded to the fact that continuous sensitization was necessary and commended ADU Women’s Wing (Home Based) for partnering with government on the exercise.
Some of the children who took part in the programme said they learnt useful precautionary measures and promised to spread the information to others.
The event was attended by the Vice President, ADU National (worldwide), Mr. C. C. Ashiogwu, Enyi Patricia Amuwah, among others.
