COVID – 19: Ughelli South Council Constitutes Community Enforcement Committees

The Executive Chairman of Ughelli South Local Government of Delta state, Honourable ( Dr.) Richard Kofi, has approved the setting up of COVID-19 Enforcement Committees at the community level to effectively drive the fight against the spread of the virus in the Council Area.

A statement issued by the Secretary to the Local Government, Mr.Joseph Obrurhe, says the Committees are to be headed by the President General or Chairman of each of the communities.   

The members are Community Youth Leader, Community Woman Leader, Head of Local Vigilante and religious leader.

The Committees are to enforce diligent compliance with all government’s protocols on Covid-19 as they relate to burials, social events, political gatherings, communal festivals, religiou activities 

They are to ensure that not more than 50 persons attend marriages or burials, enforce social distancing, hand sanitizing/washing with soaps and water, as well as compulsory use of face masks and observance of the curfew in place from 7pm to 6am.

The COVID – 19 Community Enforcement Committees are also to report suspected cases of COVID-19 in the communities to the Ughelli South Local Government Action Task Force.

The statement adds that Community Leaders will be held accountable for any breach of the aforementioned orders in their communities and urged them to support the Committees.
