The Special Adviser to the Governor of Delta state on Project Implementation and Evaluation, Honourable Johnson Erijo, has appealed to Deltans to take the extension of the COVID – 19 lockdown in the state by another two weeks in good faith as it is in the interest of all.
Honourable Erijo, who made the appeal while chatting with the Head of the Media Unit of the Office and SSA to the Governor on Project Monitoring, Engineer Emmanuel Chuks Mormah, said COVID-19 was real and everyone must exercise collective responsibility in fighting it by cooperating with the Delta State Government and other relevant authorities.
He said Governor Okowa should be commended for bringing his experience as a medical doctor to bear in the handling of the COVID – 19 challenge, especially for ensuring that the state keyed into International best practices in the prevention and control of the pandemic.
The Governor’s aide urged Deltans to adhere to all precautionary measures by staying at home, washing their hands regularly with soap and running water, using alcohols based sanitizers in the absence of water, wearing face masks and keeping social distancing to curb the spread of the dreaded virus in the state.
Honourable Erijo said in line with Governor Okowa’s promise to Deltans, rice, beans and Indomie Noodles from the Delta State COVID – 19 Response Food Bank, were already being distributed to indigent and vulnerable people in the state, irrespective of political affiliations, as part of measures to alleviate their sufferings during the lockdown period.
The Special Adviser, therefore, encouraged Deltans not to see the lockdown extension by Governor Okowa as a punishment, but a measure to further control the spread of the killer COVID-19 in the state.
