A non profit, humanitarian organisation, The Monu Olarewaju Foundation, (MOF) has embarked on the donation of palliatives, including food items and cash, to the most vulnerable, particularly the needy and widows, in the Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency, in support of efforts to cushion the effect of the lockdown over the coronavirus on the people.

Flagging off the project with a donation to the Asaba Development Union (worldwide) the initiator of the Foundation, Hon (Barr) Chinwe Monu – Olarewaju, said in the course of the series of sensitization, mobilisation and advocacy carried out by the organisation on COVID – 19, it became imperative to up scale intervention by way of palliatives to vulnerable households in Aniocha north, Aniocha south, Oshimili north and Oshimili south..

Olarewaju stressed the need for increased support for the less privileged by critical stakeholders at this critical time in history to complement government’s efforts at curtailing the spread of the coronavirus in the state.

On Monday, April 13, Honourable Olarewaju led her team to make another donation to selected 16 widowed households in the Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency through representatives of the four local government areas in the constituency.

She advised the widows, and indeed all Deltans, to be wary of the deadly COVID – 19 and comply with all precautionary measures, including regular hand washing and sanitizing, as well as maintaining social distancing and good personal hygiene.

The MOF Founder encouraged the women to be more vigilant and report any suspected case of COVID – 19 in their localities to the appropriate authorities for prompt action.

Olarewaju noted that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa was passionate about the safety of Deltans and had done a lot to curtail the spread of the coronavirus in the state and ensure the welfare of the people by providing palliatives for the less privileged.

Receiving the items which include rice, garri, palm oil among others, on behalf of the beneficiaries, Elizabeth Mokwenye from Aniocha north and Ifeyinwa Aniekwe from Oshimili north thanked Monu Olarewaju Foundation for the gesture, assuring that the items would get to the widows, while pledging support for the organisation,s programmes.

The Monu Olarewaju Foundation was founded 18 years ago with the mission of unlocking opportunities for the Girl Child and women, while advocating gender equality across the country, and had taken its programmes to the 36 states of the federation and the FCT.
