The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and the National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria (NARD) have vowed not to allow the Chinese doctors who just arrived in the country to assist in the fight against Coronavirus, to touch any of their patients.

The President of the Nigerian Medical Association, (NMA), Dr. Francis Faduyile,  said it would be unethical and illegal to allow the 15-man Chinese medical team with specialties in infectious disease, respiratory illness, intensive care, cardiology, neurology, general surgery and anesthesiology to touch or attend to any of their patients.

He said the association’s stance had not changed, insisting that there was nothing the Chinese would offer that could improve what was on ground.

For his part, the President of the National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria (NARD) Dr. Sokomba Aliyu, said government had said the Chinese experts were coming to donate and install some personal protective equipment which the association was not against.

Aliyu, however, stated categorically that the Chinese would not be allowed to attend to any Nigerian because it was unethical and illegal, adding that the Chinese were not licensed to practice in Nigeria and Nigerian doctors were not overwhelmed and could take care of their patients.

He warned that if the Chinese were engaged by the federal government to treat COVID – 19 patients, they would  leave the patients for the Chinese to continue managing.
