Delta State Government has said the stay – at – home order is not intended to punish the people of the state.
Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr Chiedu Ebie, stated this on Saturday when the State Task Force on the Enforcement of the directive monitored compliance around the State Capital Territory.
He told newsmen that local government chairmen across the state had been mandated to set up makeshift markets in primary schools within the communities to enable residents purchase food items.
Ebie appealed to Deltans and other residents of the state to take the lockdown seriously, stressing the need for educated and enlightened Deltans to help create the desired awareness about the corona virus in view of the different beliefs and theories about the virus among the people.
While saying that COVID – 19 was real, the SSG said the state government was working closely with the local government chairmen to put appropriate palliative measures in place to minimise the effect of the sit – at – home order on the people.
Also speaking, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Mr Hafiz Inuwa, appealed to Deltans to be patient with security operatives while identifying themselves.
For his part, the Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu, called for increased cooperation from Deltans, saying that the lockdown was in their best interest.
