A former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial aspirant in Rivers state, Barrister Soalabo West, has been reportedly killed by suspected herdsmen.

He was kidnapped outside his poultry farm on the 7th of March in Aluu area of Rivers state by AK – 47 rifle bearing  herdsmen and led into the bush, when he went to the farm to pay his workers.

His abductors called his family to demand for a ransom of N30m, which a member of the family disclosed was reviewed downward to N2.5 million.

The ex-guber aspirant was, however,  killed by his captors after they allegedly failed to get the sum, having being intercepted by the police while wanting to pick up the ransom.

The decomposing remains of West were said to have a bullet wound and matchet cuts when recovered.

The deceased, who hailed from Abonnema, Akuku Toru local government area, was a popular lawyer and had gone into politics as a governorship aspirant in the 2019 elections.

The prime suspect, who was identified as Adamu Musa, was arrested by operatives of Anti Kidnapping Unit of the Rivers State Police Command and had confessed to killing the kidnap victim.

The anti kidnapping team, however, said it was working on assassination theory following the insistence of the hoodlums on killing the victim despite negotiating for ransom.
