Traditional Rulers in Delta North under the aegis of Delta North Traditional Rulers Forum have thrown their weight behind South South Governors in their bid to tackle insecurity in the South South region.
Rising from a joint meeting between the Traditional Rulers and Security agencies at Owa Oyibu, Ika north east, the monarchs commended the South South Governors for proposing an enduring solution to security problems bedeviling the region.
The Chairman of the Forum and Obi of Owa Kingdom, Dr Emmanuel Efeizomor 11, who read the 7 point Communique issued at the meeting, described the decision to float a regional security outfit as one of the best made by the Governors in recent times, saying that it was not only people oriented but timely.
The Royal Fathers called for the unification of all security/vigilante groups in the nine local government areas in Delta north and prevailed on the state Commissioner of Police to strengthen the security outfits to enable them optimally assist the police in crime detection and prevention,
The Royal Fathers urged relevant government agencies to embark on the registration of all motorcycles and tricycles operating in Delta north, insisting that their operations should be regulated to curb excesses.
They suggested that all motorcycle and tricycle operators should be made to wear operational tags that must tally with the registration numbers of their motorcycles and tricycles for easy identification in the event of their involvement in criminal activities.
The Monarchs also called for increased public support for vigilante groups, pointing out that their resolve to continue to speak with one voice on issues of common interest was not negotiable.
The Royal Fathers passed a vote of confidence on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for upscaling the tempo of Development across the State and for promoting peace, unity and oneness among Deltans.
They also commended the Chairmen of the nine local government councils of Delta north for partnering with them in promoting peace, harmony and security in various Kingdoms in the senatorial district.
The meeting was attended by the Commander 63 Army Brigade Headquarters, Asaba represented by the platoon commander 181 Amphibious Battalion, Agbor, Lt Col. Mairiga, Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr Hafiz Inuwa and other Heads of Security agencies in the State.
