The member representing Ika south constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly has called on his people to remain calm even in the face of extreme insecurity in the area.
Okoh, who is the Majority Whip of the House, alleged that Fulani herdsmen had made life unbearable in Ika south, stressing that some communities, including Obi-Ayima were under siege of herdsmen.
Speaking with Assembly correspondent after the adoption of a motion brought under matters of urgent public importance on the issue by the Delta State House of Assembly, Okoh said people in the affected communities were no longer going to their farms for fear of being held captive by the Fulani herders.
He noted that people were being harmed, killed and women raped on daily basis, saying that the situation if not checked could lead to anarchy.
Okoh, who seconded the motion urging the government to urgently step into the matter, sponsored by the member representing Aniocha north, Honourable Emeka Nwaobi, stressed the need to follow up the resolution to the later.
He recalled that in the sixth Delta State House of Assembly he sponsored the same motion, but not much was achieved in that regards, maintaining that protection of lives and property was the constitutional responsibility of government.
Okoh commended his constituents for their patience and for being on the path of peace.
The legislator, however, called for prompt action to address the problem as the people’s patience was being over stretched.
He expressed delight at the resolution of the House and hoped that the needful would be done to nip the problem in the bud.
