Senior Special Assistant to Delta State Governor on Health Monitoring, Dr Michael Nwoko, has admonished health personnel at the various Ports of entry into the state to be diligent in the execution of the protocol on Coronavirus.

Dr. Nwoko, who gave the admonition when he led the Delta State Health Monitoring team to Osubi International Airport and Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) Warri, said they should ensure routine checks on passengers for early signs and symptoms of COVID – 19.

The team was at the two strategic Ports  to assess the facilities on ground for conducting preliminary checks on passengers coming into the state for Coronavirus and also to ascertain the readiness of the health team to effectively execute the protocol on Coronavirus, which had been declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO).

After inspecting the medical facilities, Dr. Nwoko said there was no cause for alarm because the Okowa administration, through the state Ministry of Health, was collaborating with the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) to ensure precautionary measures and curtail the spread should there be any outbreak in the state.

Dr. Nwoko commended the staff of the Ports for effectively guarding against the disease and charged them to exercise caution in handling patients to avoid contracting the virus.

The SSA said so far there had been no reported outbreak of Coronavirus in Delta state.

The officials and health personnel of the Ports commended the Health Monitoring Team for their proactive steps to deal with public health challenges in the state, noting that the state government had shown genuine commitment to ensuring the safety of residents of the state following the reported outbreak of Coronavirus in Lagos.

They thanked the state government for offering them the necessary support required to prevent the spread of the disease.

The Health Monitoring Team included Dr. Patrick Onwuachi, Dr. Kingsley Amaihunwa, Dr. Sam Efetobore and their personal aides and staff.
