Delta State Government has charged contractors handling phases one and two of the master drainage project that cuts across Warri, Uvwie and environs to show more commitment to achieving the set target.
Specifically, Levant and CCECC, have been enjoined to hasten up their activities taking advantage of the dry season that is about ending.
The Director General of the Warri/Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency (WUEDA), Comrade. Ovuozourie Macaulay, gave the charge while inspecting the project sites.
He cautioned that if the dry season was not maximally utilized for the project,, it would be difficult to make any meaningful impact when the rains set in.
Macaulay, a former Secretary to the Delta State Government (SSG) urged the contractors to ensure that “the integrity of the job was protected, as anything to the contrary was unacceptable.
The DG expressed displeasure at the inability of CCECC to commence work and gave the firm one week within which to make an appreciable impact on site.
He blamed the communities for dumping refuse on the canals currently being opened up and urged them to desist from the act to facilitate the execution of the drainage project.
He disclosed that henceforth he will not sit in his office waiting for site Engineers report, rather he will be coming out to see the level of work done, adding that the inspection of the sites has revealed much.
Speaking on behalf of Ajamimogha Okere Community, Mr. Barry O. Woods promised that the community would ensure a conducive environment for the contractor to perform.
The Superintendent Manager, Levant Construction, Mr. William Taylor, told the DG and his team that the project was at its preparatory stage with the clearing the canals to ease execution, adding that the observations made so far by the DG would be addressed.
For his part, the Project Manager of CCECC Nig Ltd assured the DG that they would mobilize to site within the week.
The sites inspected by the DG were Ajamimogha bridge, Esisi bridge, Okere bridge, Ogboro bridge, as well as the construction yards of the two firms.
