The contractor handling the Construction of Obitobon-Elolo-Ajaokurogbo-Orubu road, Ogidighen phase 1 in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta state has been asked to increase the pace of work on the project.

Delta State Commissioner for Works, Chief James Augoye, gave the charge on Wednesday while inspecting the project, which he said would transform the area when completed.

Augoye, who was accompanied by field officers from the ministry, engineers from the contracting firm and the counsellor representing Ogidigben ward, in Warri south West Local Government Area, said the Okowa administration was passionate about seeing the project to fruition.

He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done so far, though at a slow pace, and called for more action to ensure that the good intentions of government for the project were realized in Okowa administration’s quest for a Stronger Delta.

While commending the contractor for the completion of the box culverts on the road, the Works Commissioner directed the firm to effect certain corrections on the culverts

He further instructed that the grasses on both sides of the road be cleared before further sand filling, while the thickness of the slab should be raised to 150 millimeters according to specification, as against the 100 millimeters on ground.

For their part, the Director of the construction firm, Mr. Emmanuel Natuke and the Site Engineer Mr. William Osagie blamed the slow pace of work on the logistics involved in transporting heavy construction  equipment and materials to site, noting however, that they had started casting the slab on some portions of the road.

Commending the peaceful disposition of the community, the firm promised to increase the pace of work, assuring that the project would be delivered within eighty days.

The counsellor representing Ogidigben ward, Mr. Raymend-Pirah, Ogidigben Youth President, Mr. Jonathan Omatseye and Mrs. Emili Ajekerenbianghan thanked Governor Okowa for the project  and commended the Works Commissioner for closely monitoring the road project.
