Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state has commended the Nigerian Army for increasing its formations in the state, saying the measure has strengthened security of lives and property of the people.

The Governor gave the commendation on Monday while inaugurating the temporary 63 Brigade Headquarters of the Nigerian Army in Asaba.

He said security was a serious business and expressed delight that the army chose Asaba for the Brigade headquarters.

The Governor said he was confident that making the Brigade operational would assist the state in achieving the desired peace, pointing out that besides holding security meetings twice monthly in the state, there existed a perfect working relationship with security agencies to ensure the reign of peace in the state.

Okowa said though the state was largely peaceful, there were still cases of herders/farmers clash and kidnapping.

He expressed the hope that with the desired level of synergy between the security agencies and efficient information sharing mechanism, Delta state and the nation would be more secured.

The Governor thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-General Tukur Buratai, for also locating 181 Battalion of the Nigerian Army at Agbor and assured the security agencies present in the state that they would continue to enjoy the support of the state government.

Earlier, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai commended Governor Okowa for his interest in the security of lives and property which led to the donation of the land and structures for the 63 Brigade Headquarters, disclosing that a lot was put into consideration before the Brigade was approved for the state.

The COAS stated that the Brigade had been operationalized and thanked Deltans for their support and hospitality.

He noted that the achievements of Operation Crocodile Smile 4 showed that a lot could be achieved in maintaining peace in the country.
