The Special Sanitation exercise in Uvwie Local Government Area ordered by the Delta State Waste Management Board continued on Saturday at the NNPC Housing Complex Bridge, Ekpan.

It was Day 2 of the exercise, which coincided with the state environmental sanitation exercise for the month of February, and focus was on sand and refuse evacuation along the bridge.

The Executive Chairman of the State Waste Management Board, Honourable Emmanuel Chinye, who supervised the exercise alongside the member representing Delta central on the Board, Honourable Dan Ighedo, restated the resolve of the state government to ensure that every part of the state was clean.

Honourable Chinye said the mandate of the Board was to effectively manage waste in partnership with the private sector, which prompted the engagement of Private Sector Participants, PSPs in waste evacuation.

He described Uvwie as a strategic commercial centre in the state that needed to be kept clean to further boost investment in the area, stressing that the Lassa Fever and Coronavirus scares had made it even more imperative for people to imbibe good personal hygiene and keep their environment clean at all times.

The Waste Management Board Chairman said the monthly sanitation exercise remained a strong tool in ensuring a cleaner environment and for creating a waste management culture among Deltans.

Honourable Chinye expressed confidence in the capacity of the present crop of Board members to drive the strategies put in place to make the goals achievable.
