It is now known that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is highly committed to paying road contractors, explaining why roads are being constructed more than ever before in the state for which the Governor is now nicknamed Road Master.

Delta Works Commissioner, Chief James Augoye, who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen, said the Governor had promised not to leave any road awarded by his administration uncompleted, adding that road construction was a sure way of creating indirect employment.

Augoye said all roads awarded by the present administration had their economic importance, explaining that the whole essence was to link rural communities and open them up to investment.

The Works Commissioner assured of the quality of roads constructed by the Okowa administration, disclosing that the roads were being monitored by his Ministry and the State Project Monitoring Office created by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, with a former member of the State Assembly, Honourable Johnson Erijo as the Head.

He identified unpredictable weather condition as a major challenge in road construction, pointing out that there was longer period of rains than dry season, explaining why the Ministry was working to complete most of the roads before the rains set in.

Augoye reaffirmed the determination of the state government to complete the Sector C of the Asaba – Ughelli road dualization project, which he said was being closely funded, stating that the contractor was sure of delivering the Asaba – Ogwashi Uku stretch by March, 2021.

The Commissioner said the state government’s intervention in the DLA road, through the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, led to the completion of the road which had lingered for so long due to challenging topography.

He said contract had been awarded for the construction of some roads and storm water drains in the Warri!Effurun and Environs Special Development Area, to boost economic activities in that part of the state.
