The attention of Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has been drawn to the commencement of consultations by some officials of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, particularly some in positions of authority, on their political ambitions ahead of the 2023 general elections.

A statement issued by the Senior Political Adviser to the Governor, Honourable Funkekeme Solomon, indicates that reports reaching the Governor have it that some of the individuals concerned have resorted to dropping his name in the consultations thereby portraying him as remote controlling the emerging processes.

The statement views the actions of the persons concerned as unfortunate as they could cause stampede and unnecessary tension in the political space.

While the Governor is not against anyone pursuing a political ambition, the statement maintains that it becomes out of place when the consultations are commencing barely 9 months into the second tenure of the present administration., noting that such premature politicking is capable of undermining the unity of purpose of government and distracting it from the set vision of bequeathing a Stronger Delta to the people of Delta state.

It states that the Governor has directed that members of government engaged in the actions under reference should exercise restraint and ensure that their conducts do not interfere with their official responsibilities to the extent capable of weakening governance.

The statement says that appropriate sanctions await anyone whose aspiration obstructs or distracts the government, adding that the Office of the Senior Political Adviser to the Governor has been mandated to monitor the activities of all officials of the present administration to ensure compliance with the Governor’s directive.
