Female surveyors in the state have been charged to encourage the younger generation to study survey as a course to ensure that surveying does not go aground.

Delta state Commissioner for Housing, Chief Festus Ochonogor, gave the charge in Asaba on Thursday when a delegation of the Delta state chapter of Women In Surveying paid him a courtesy visit.

Ochonogor noted that there was seeming loss of interest in the study of surveys among the younger ones because of the exposure of surveyors to difficult terrains in the line of duty and called for urgent steps to encourage the choice of the course by students.

He dwelt on the importance of survey in some critical areas of development, and commended Women in Surveying for not only choosing a profession generally believed to be reserved for men, but also doing well in the practice of surveying.

The Housing Commissioner assured the women of the support of his ministry and encouraged them to be on top of their profession in order to contribute meaningfully to development of the society, particularly in checking the incidences of collapsed building and building on natural waterways.

The leader of the delegation, Surveyor Felicia Omatsola, said the visit was to congratulate Chief Ochonogor, who is a surveyor, on his right choice as Delta State Commissioner for Housing.
Mrs Omatsola urged the Delta State Government to post more female surveyors to Survey Content Ministries, Departments and Agencies in order to give them the opportunity to contribute to development control.

She pledged the support of Women In Surveying for the developmental efforts of the Okowa administration.
