DTHA TAKES FIRST READING OF HIV/AIDS ANTI DISCRIMINATION BILL

A bill for a law to prohibit all forms of discrimination against persons living with HIV/AIDS in Delta state has scaled through the first reading in the State House of Assembly.


The bill, which also seeks to give legal backing to the protection, access to justice, support and care of HIV/AIDS patients in Delta State, has the member representing Warri South One Constituency, Honourable Austin Uroye and 24 others as sponsors.


The motion for the first reading of the bill was moved by the lead sponsor, Honourable Augustine Uroye, seconded by the Deputy Chief Whip of the House, Honourable Solomon Ighrakpata representing Uvwie Constituency.


The motion was unanimously adopted when put to voice vote by the Deputy Speaker, Honourable Ochor Christopher Ochor who presided at the plenary session for the first time since the inauguration of the 7th Assembly in June, 2019.


The second reading of the bill has been slated for March 10, 2020.


The House has adjourned sitting to Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at ten in the morning.
