Residents of Oney Ofokwu street, behind DLA office, Asaba, have expectantly heaved a sigh of relief after a long wait and prayer for intervention in their bad road situation before the next rainy season.
The street has been a ‘ no go area ‘ over the years every rainy season and the situation has turned a nightmare to residents of the area who hardly accessed their apartments whenever it rained.
After demystifying the popular DLA road, which had seemed impossible to construct, but which has now become a smooth tarred road, the Okowa administration appears set to award contract for the construction of the access road to Oney Ofokwu street.
On 13th February, 2020, residents of the area felt a sense of belonging when the Commissioner of Works, Chief James Augoye, came on an inspection of the road unannounced.
The visit was hope rising for the residents as Chief Augoye felt bad about the deplorable condition of the road and promised that the narrative would change in no distant time.
Comrade McCartney Obrotu, who spoke on behalf of the residents in a chat with newsmen, thanked the Commissioner for the visit and commended him for effectively driving the Okowa administration’s ‘ Operation No Earth Road ‘ in Asaba.
Obrotu noted that the Commissioner had encouraged professional engineers in his Ministry to built their capacity with the introduction of annual retreats where they cross fertilized ideas on best practices in road construction.
He expressed confidence in the ability of the Chief Augoye to cause action to be taken on the road and pledged the support of residents of the area for the Okowa administration.
