LOCAL CONTENT AGENCY BILL: DTHA Interfaces With Public In Legislative Process

A public hearing on a bill for a law to establish the Delta State Local Content Agency has held at the State House of Assembly.


Organized by the House Committee on Environment, Oil and Gas, the public hearing had in attendance relevant stakeholders to be affected by the proposed law.


In his opening remark, the Committee’s Chairman, Honourable Ekpotuareyin Pullahin, said the hearing was to seek the inputs of relevant stakeholders to ensure the making of a quality and all embracing law.


Pullahin acknowledged the receipt of Memoranda from some critical stakeholders and announced a window of an additional one week to enable others willing to submit to do so.


He explained that the Local Content Agency Bill would promote peace and development in the state, stressing the need for stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to the enactment of the new law.


A member of the Committee, Honourable Anthony Elekeokuri, who represents Ika north east in the House, drew attention to some clauses in the bill and sought the views of stakeholders in the recommendations.


Other members of the Committee, including Honorables Ferguson Onwo, Felix Anira and Charles Onyiyere commended the stakeholders for the interest shown in the law making process.


The State Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Chief Emmanuel Agbadugba led top officials of the ministry to the public hearing, which also had in attendance officials of the State Ministry of Justice, representatives of indigenous oil companies and host communities of oil and gas in the state, among others.
