A medical expert has called for the embrace of personal hygiene by the people as a way of life in order to minimise the spread of deadly diseases, particularly Coronavirus and Lassa Fever, currently ravaging some parts of the world.

Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta state on Health Monitoring, Dr. Michael Nwoko, who made the call on a Delta Television breakfast programme, Morning Ride, said people should also form the habit of promptly reporting persons who present with early symptoms of Lassa Fever transmitted through contact with the faeces or urine of Mastomys Natalensis rat.

Dr. Nwoko stressed the need for people and communities to keep their surroundings clean and maintain regular hand washing and food covering habits, adding that it was important for the people to be conversant with the early symptoms of LASSA FEVER such as elevated body temperature, vomiting, skin rashes, among others and report same to the nearest healthcare facility.
He said the Health Monitoring Team had embarked on sensitization of the public on preventive measures to take, and had met with the Emergency Operation Committee (EOC) of the State Ministry of Health as well as stakeholders in the health sector to strategize on how to effectively control and reduce the spread of LASSA FEVER to zero level in the Delta state.

On close observation of neighbors, Dr Nwoko said any sign of an ailment around one’s neighborhood should be promptly reported to the nearest health centre by calling any of the following phone numbers:
080307581790803507854108033521961
The SSA thanked the Governor of Delta State Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for providing the enabling environment that had made it possible to bring the outbreak of LASSA FEVER in the state under control.
