The Delta State Government has commenced the reclamation of the deep gully erosion site at Owa – Nta, in Ika north east local government area of the state.
The state Commissioner for Environment, Honourable Chris Onogba, who was at the project site on Wednesday to witness the commencement of work, said the move was to save more houses and economic crops in the area from being lost and make the area accessible by road.
Onogba said government was deeply concerned about the devastation suffered by residents of Owa – Nta and indeed other erosion prone areas of the state and would do everything possible to alleviate the sufferings of those affected.
The Commissioner recalled that the state government last week compensated those whose property and economic crops would be affected by the project to enable them relocate to safe grounds, pointing out that normal life would return to the ravaged areas after the reclamation.
He urged the contractor, Levante Nigeria Limited, to stick to job specifications and ensure prompt and quality delivery of the project.
