Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state has assured the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) of the state government’s continued support for the scheme.
The Governor gave the assurance on Thursday while inaugurating a 720-capacity hostel for NYSC members at the Permanent Orientation Camp at Issele-Uku, Aniocha north local government area.
He recalled that the camp was in a poor state when he visited in 2018, and expressed delight that the camp had begun to wear a look befitting of a place where Corps members spent time before being deployed to parts of the state for their primary assignment.
Okowa said the state government believed that facilities in the camp should be improved upon and would continue to collaborate with the federal government in different ways that would benefit the state.
The Governor appreciated the work of the contractors that handled the projects and expressed the hope that at the end of his administration the NYSC Orientation Camp would be totally a changed environment that would be comfortable for the Corps members.
The Director General of NYSC, Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim, represented by Mr Steve Ehoda-Adi, thanked Governor Okowa for his numerous contributions to the growth of the scheme, while the South South Coordinator of NYSC, Mr Omotade Folorunso Omotade, said no administration since the inception of Delta state had made the level of investment and commitment Okowa had made to the Camp and the NYSC in Delta State.
The State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs .Olutayo Samuel, described Governor Okowa as a promise keeper.
Traditional rulers, politicians, among others witnessed the event.
