The Delta State Government has said there is no going back on the ongoing recertification of registered cooperative societies in the state.
The State Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Honourable Chika Ossai disclosed this on Wednesday while issuing recertification certificates to some of the cooperative societies that had complied with the directive in Agbor, Ughelli and Warri.
Underscoring the import of the exercise, the Commissioner warned that at the expiration of the February deadline for all registered cooperative societies to comply with the new order, defaulting Cooperative societies in the state would not only be deregisered, but have their accounts frozen by the state government.
According to the Commissioner, the recertification exercise was informed by the deliberate desire of the state government to sanitise the cooperative movement in the state.
While saying that the Okowa administration was irrevocably committed to repositioning the cooperative movement in the state, Ossai urged the leadership of the various cooperative societies to take the ongoing recertification seriously as there would be no extension after the February deadline.
The commissioner was accompanied on the visit by top officials of the Ministry, including the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Ebipade Aloba, his Special Assistant on Media Mr Chuks Eboagwu among others.
