Delta State Government has approved the full implementation of the New National Minimum Wage approved by the federal government in 2019.
Also approved is the payment of two months arrears with effect from November 1, 2019.
The Secretary to Delta State Government, SSG, Mr Chiedu Ebie, who is the chairman of the implementation committee, broke the news on Friday at a meeting he had with the leadership of the Organized Labour.
Mr Ebie, who said the implementation would take effect from January 2020, said the gesture was in line with the directive of the National Income and Wages Commission.
The SSG said Governor Okowa had earlier declared his readiness to pay the New Minimum Wage, pointing out that the delay was to address all the issues bordering on consequential adjustment.
He thanked workers in the state for their maturity and assured that their interest would continue to receive prompt attention.
The State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku and the State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, Comrade Martin Bolum, thanked Governor Okowa for the approval and pledged their support for his administration.
