A former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Honourable (Engr.) Franc Enekorogha, has stressed the need for greater unity in Ijaw nation.
Honourable Enekorogha, who was speaking in Warri at an event to usher in the new year, said division and factionalism had eaten deep into the polity, particularly in the Ijaw ethnic nationality of Delta State and called on the people to embrace peace and remain united.
The former Lawmaker, who was also the immediate past Director General of the Delta State Direct Labour Agency, noted that evil could only persist when not spoken against and urged Delta Ijaws not to associate with those who did not mean well for them and the state at large.
He said It was disheartening to find members of a family fighting one another, stressing that the time had come for the Ijaws to put the past behind them, take to the path of truth and work collectively for the overall good of the all.
Honourable Enekorogha regretted that division had existed among the people for too long, pointing out that vengeance had placed the people at same level with their enemies, and appealed to them to wake up to reality.
The former Speaker appealed to the people to forgive one another and move on, as reconciliation was not negotiable.
The ceremony was attended by Senator James Manager, the Chairman, PDP, Delta South, Chief Julius Takeme, Hon Asupa Forteta, retired Wing Commander, Peter Biakpara, Hon. Collins Eselemo, Hon. James Nieketein, Barr Oweilaemi Pereotubo, the Chairman, Burutu local government council, Hon Godknows Angele, Chief Julius Government, Mr. Kofee Amasuomo, Hon Arede Edeinmene and Amb.
