Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state has urged politicians, especially those in positions of authority, to serve God through selfless service.
Okowa made the call on Saturday at a thanksgiving service at the instance of the member representing the Ethiope Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Honourable Ben Igbakpa, at First Baptist Church, Ovade-Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area of the state.

He said it was proper to appreciate God for His mercies, but that service to humanity would glorify God more.
The Governor said thanksgiving was an acknowledgement that electoral victories came from God, adding that there should be no discrimination in spreading the benefits of good representation to the people of Ethiope Federal Constituency.

Okowa reaffirmed that Delta would remain united and appealed to politicians to strive to make life more meaningful to the people of the state.
He commended Ben Igbakpa for thanking God for his victory in the 2019 election and at the Court.
In a sermon on the occasion, Reverend Gideon Oyibo said it was proper for politicians to thank God considering what their relations and supporters often went through before, during and after elections.

Reverend Oyibo said Christians should play politics, but with the fear of God, stressing that service to God should come first in the life of every politician.
In his remark, Igbakpa said he decided to thank God because his victory at the polls could not have been possible without Him.
He also thanked all those God used to make the victory possible.

Former Governor of Delta state, Chief James Ibori, Senator James Manager, Minority Leader, House of Representatives, Honourable Ndudi Elumelu, Professor Sam Oyovbaire and some members of the state executive council were among dignitaries present at the event.
