The people of Akwukwu Igbo in Oshimili north local government area at the weekend enjoyed free healthcare services courtesy of Kingsley Chichi Foundation, in collaboration with Fight Against Desert Encroachment, FADE.

The medical outreach, which was also supported by Caritas Nigeria, attracted no fewer than 500 persons, including the elderly, men, women and children, who took advantage of the programme to know their health status.

Speaking on behalf of Kingsley Chichi Foundation, Dr. MaryClaire Chi said the outreach was in line with the health wellbeing initiative of Sustainable Development Goal, SDG 3.

Dr MaryClaire noted that poor health was a threat to the life of the people, particularly rural dwellers, hence the desire of the Foundation to step in with a solution to the problem of non compliance with drugs by the people through Free Medical Care.

She said KC Foundation was determined to offer the best healthcare services to Akwukwu Igbo people, pointing out that the programme covered screening and treatment for HIV, Hepatitis B, Malaria Parasite, Diabetes and Hypertension.

The Founder of Fight Against Desert Encroachment, Chief Newton Jibunor, also known as the Desert Warrior, said he decided to partner with KC Foundation for the medical outreach because he believed that the best Christmas gift for the people of Akwukwu Igbo was good health, which was not readily available to some, particularly the uneducated ones, due to ignorance.

For his part, the coordinator of Caritas Nigeria in Oshimili north local government area and Chief Medical Officer of the Government Hospital Ibusa, Dr. Dike Okwelum, stressed the need for people to know their HIV status, which informed the screening for HIV earlier carried out by Caritas Nigeria, in commemoration of World AIDS Day.

Dr Okwelum commended KC Foundation for partnering with the Fight Against Desert Encroachment and Caritas Nigeria to give Akwukwu Igbo people free quality healthcare.
