Delta state government has moved to address the incessant flooding in Uzere community, in Isoko south local government area, with mechanical desiltation of canals in the area.
The State Commissioner for Environment, Mr Chris Onogba, disclosed this while speaking with newsmen after monitoring the desiltation exercise.
Mr Onogba said government was conscious of the impact of flooding in Uzere occasioned by heavily silted canals and had resolved to take advantage of the dry season to open up the canals.
He pointed out that swamp buggies had been deployed for the exercise which he said would give the community a new lease of life.
The Environment Commissioner explained that the state government would continue with its environmental impact assessment initiative to be able to identify potential threats to the environment and take necessary steps to forestall the associated dangers.
He assured the people of Uzere that government would not renege in making life meaningful for them, stressing that the desiltation of the canals was one way of enhancing the wellbeing of the people.
