The developmental strides of the Okowa administration have received another recognition with the presentation of the Nigerian Tribune’s Platinum Award as the touch bearer in infrastructure and environmental development to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
Four other State Governors, Samuel Ortom of Benue, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, Godwin Obaseki of Edo and Seyi Makinde of Oyo, also received awards at the ceremony organised by the African Newspapers of Nigeria Plc, publishers of the Nigeria Tribune Newspapers to commemorate its seventieth anniversary in Lagos.
Senator Okowa, who was represented by his Deputy, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro, dedicated the award to religious leaders and traditional rulers in the state for their roles in ensuring a peaceful environment for government to implement its development blueprint across the state.
The Governor said it was fulfilling for him to be counted worthy to be honored by a prestigious Newspaper which scarcely engaged in presentation of awards, describing it as a call to greater efforts at developing the state in the remaining years of his administration.
Earlier, the chairman of the African Newspaper of Nigeria Plc, Ambassador Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosumu, said it was the second time in the seventy years of the existence of the Newspaper an award ceremony was organised, pointing out that truth and integrity had remained the driving force of the media organisation.
She said the award recipients had distinguished themselves in humanitarian activities, public service, and enterprise, explaining that the organisation recognised good conduct with a view to encouraging the younger generation to imbibe the virtues of hard work and integrity.
The African Newspaper of Nigeria Plc, publishers of the Nigeria Tribune Newspaper, was established in 1949 by foremost nationalist, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
