The Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party in Aniocha north local government area of Delta state, Prince Victor Egbune, has commended a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Health Monitoring, Dr Michael Nwoko and his Wife, Blessing, for reaching out to widows in the local government area.
Prince Egbune gave the commendation at Idumuje Ugboko while speaking at an empowerment programme organised by the couple for widows.

He thanked them for the rare display of great passion for the widows and enjoined other well meaning individuals as well as political appointees in the State to emulate the gesture, which he noted was targeted at the economically disadvantaged in the society.

The LGA Youth Leader of the PDP, Honourable Richard Anonye, described the Nwoko couple as kind hearted and urged other political appointees in the state to impact positively on the lives of the people.

Dr. Michael Nwoko, whilst explaining the reason behind the gesture, said it was a pet project of his wife which he considered necessary to support in order to add value to the lives of widows on whose shoulders the responsibilities formerly shared with their husbands had rested.

The SSA added that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa was using the State Government’s Widow’s Program to reach out to widows, and the pet project was to complement government’s effort.

He stated that the programme was the first phase of empowerment program for widows in the Idumuje/Odiani clan of Aniocha north, pointing out that the second phase would follow shortly with plans to expand to other parts of the council area and the Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency in due course.

For her part, the initiator of the empowerment programme, Mrs. Blessing Nwoko, said it was prompted by her desire to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged and vulnerable in the society.

Mrs. Nwoko, a pharmacist, said the programme was also intended to bring her closer to the widows who were faced with challenges, particularly having to take care of their children, asking them to contact her in times of pressing need.

Some of the beneficiaries thanked Dr Michael Nwoko and his wife for identifying with them and prayed God to continue to bless them.

The highlight if the program was the presentation of the empowerment packages to the widows by Mrs. Nwoko, the LGA PDP Chairman, Prince Victor Egbune, the ward Chairman and the woman leader.
