A health center with State-of-the- Art facilities and owned by a US based Deltan, Dr Azuka Victor Ubani has been commissioned in Lagos with a call on Nigerians in diaspora to help address the challenges of inadequate healthcare services in Nigeria.
The management of the health facility, named “Well Eagle Medical Center,” located in the densely populated Badagry area of Lagos State at the weekend, offered free consultations, diagnosis, blood test and fifty percent off the fee for other medical services to mark the official commencement of operations in the hospital.
Dr Ubani said the free medical service, which recorded over two hundred patients, was in collaboration with Azuka-Ify Foundation, an American based Non Governmental Organization with main focus on health, education and environment sectors in Africa countries.
The Commissioning of the center was performed by the Chairman, Olorunda LCDA, Honourable Samson Olatunde, flanked by the Baale of Odan Ilogbo, Alhaji Keinde Idowu amid cheers from indigenes of the catchment communities.
Dr Ubani who is the Atlanta Chapter President of Nigeria In Diaspora Organization, NIDO and Vice Chairman, Board of Trustee, said he had observed during his visits to relations in Badagry that that area of Badagry expressway in Lagos, lacked a comprehensive health center with modern facilities for effective diagnosis, hence the decision to build the hospital to bridge the gap, noting that “health is wealth”.
He stated that the centre was fully equipped with standard health facilities for Laboratory Tests, Ultra-Sounds, Diagnosis, X-Ray and Dialysis, saying that the effort was to support the Nigerian and Lagos State Governments in providing quality healthcare to the people.
Dr Ubani a co-founder of Azuka-Ify Foundation, reiterated the resolve of the NGO to care for the less privileged in the society, saying that the private health institution would serve as a centre for some of its health programs in Nigeria.
The Chairman, Olorunda LCDA, Honourable Samson Olatunde, while commissioning the center, commended Dr Ubani for providing the health facility, which he said would go a long way in meeting the health needs of the people.
Honourable Olatunde charged well meaning Nigerians in diaspora to invest in projects that would benefit the public, stressing that the effort of Dr Ubani and his family was worthy of emulation.
The Baale of Odan Ilogbo, Alhaji Keinde Idowu, who spoke in the same vein expressed profound gratitude to Dr Ubani for siting the health center in the community and for the free medical service and assured him of effective collaboration.
The Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr Chris Chukwuyem, said equipment for all kinds of Halmotology, Renal, Liver function test, Ultra Sound Scanning, Diabetes, Cardiac Profile, Fertility and Hormones diagnosis among others, had been installed in the center and urged the people to avail themselves the opportunity to know their health status.
Some Badagry indigenes, including Mr Oscar Oladapo, Josiah Olaitan and Miss Confidence Williams, the first patient to be attended to in the hospital thanked Dr Ubani for establishing the health institution.
