Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Health Monitoring, Dr. Michael Nwoko has advocated  sensitization as key to ending the cultural practise of  patronizing traditional homes by rural dwellers.

Dr. Nwoko made the remark during a working visit to some health facilities in Aniocha south local government area of Delta state.

He said it was important to adequately sensitize residents of every community on the need to patronize public health facilities in their domains to enable them benefit from the laudable policies and programmes of the Okowa administration, including the free maternal and child health and the Contributory Health Scheme.

The SSA frowned at the situation where many rural dwellers still patronized traditional healing homes at exorbitant costs, instead of taking advantage of the free equity plans of the state .government.

Dr Nwoko noted that the health facilities usually inherited cases from traditional homes as emergencies, and in most cases when a lot of damage had been done, sometimes leading to loss of lives.

He expressed satisfaction with what he saw at both the Primary Health Centers at Ubulu – Uku and Ubulu – Uno and the General Hospital at Ubulu – Uku,

Dr. Nwoko stated that monitoring and evaluation were critical to revamping the health sector.

While commending the health workers, he charged them to remain committed to Governor Okowa’s Stronger Delta agenda of attaining Universal Health Coverage in the State.
