Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has urged Nigerian leaders not to distant themselves from the people in order to strengthen the process of good governance.

He made the call in Asaba in a keynote address at the 2019 edition of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Day celebration organised by the state chapter of CAN.

The Governor said leaders must be close to the people they lead and identify with them for good policies to be made, and regretted that many leaders in the society were disconnected from the people which did not augur well for people centred policies and good governance.

Quoting some Bible verses, the Governor said Nigeria would get better if Nigerians could heed the divine injunction to repent, seek the face of God’ and turn from their wicked ways.

He commended the state leadership of CAN for the programme, which rallied Christians of all denominations for fellowship and prayer, expressing the hope that it would serve as a catalyst for greater love and stronger unity among Christians of all persuasions.

Okowa described the theme for the event ‘God Is Our Refuge And Fortress’ as apt because every human needed a fresh revelation of God as his Refuge and Fortress in the present times.

In a sermon, Bishop Kingsley Enakirerhi said Christians were called to solve problems, adding that temptations and challenges would prove to visible and invisible enemies that “when you make God your refuge and fortress, you will be prosperous, protected and preserved.”

The State Chairman of CAN, Senior Apostle Silvester Okorote, said, the state CAN Day remained an annual event which every Christian in Delta earnestly looked forward to celebrating.

He used the occasion to acknowledge the giant strides of the Okowa administration in infrastructure development.

The event featured prayers for the country, the state and those in authority as well as thanksgiving.
