Permanent Secretaries in the Delta State Post Primary Education Board have been charged to ensure that teachers in their zones take their duties seriously.

The chairman of the Board, Mrs Christiana Etaluku, gave the charge in Asaba at an induction course for newly appointed Permanent Secretaries in the Board.

She said the Permanent Secretaries must make it a point of duty to pay unscheduled visits to schools in their zones to be able to truly monitor the conduct and activities of teachers.

Mrs Etaluku said the Board was desirous of building a virile teaching force and could only do so when the teachers performed their duties creditably.

The PPEB chairman said the induction course was designed to equip the Permanent Secretaries and directors with the nitty gritty of their duties, with a view to enhancing efficiency in the system, adding that a strong administrative system was key to an efficient teaching force.

Mrs Etaluku said the Permanent Secretaries were the engine room of the Board and expressed optimism that with the orientation given to them they would strive to add value to the system.

She warned that the Board would not condone dereliction of duty or any act of indiscipline from its teachers, as it was bent on making the State Unified Teaching Service the best in the country.
