SENIOR POLAD TO OKOWA PLAYS HOST TO NADESSTU

Delta state government has promised to sustain its interest in the welfare of students through the payment of bursary and provision of conducive learning environment in tertiary institutions in the state.


The Senior Political Adviser to the Governor of Delta state, Honourable Funkekeme Solomon, made the promise on Wednesday in Asaba when he played host to the executive of the National Association of Delta State Students, NADESSTU.


Honourable Solomon said government believed that the institutions were training grounds for leadership, while the students were the leaders of t hence the need to make their stay on campus stress free.


While recalling his days as a Students’ Union leader, the Senior POLAD charged the NADESSTU leadership to be focused and firm in pushing for the rights and welfare of Delta state students, adding that it should be constructive and knowledge based in its approach, as was the case with Students’ Unionism of old.


He thanked NADESSTU for ensuring peace in all the higher institutions in the state, and for the massive support of students for the Governor during the 2019 election, urging the unionists to be prepared to use their experience as a stepping stone to leadership in the larger society.


The National President of NADESSTU, Comrade Saturday Godwin, congratulated the Senior POLAD on his appointment, noting that his track record spoke volume.


He thanked the State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for being consistent with the payment of bursary to Delta state students and solicited the assistance of government in addressing some of the challenges facing the association.
