An Anglican Priest in Delta state, Reverend Stephen Eborah, has blamed the Get Rich Quick Syndrome among the youth on failure by the church and government to discourage the menace.
Reverend Eborah, in an interview with our correspondent in Asaba on Sunday, said the church should step up sensitization on the evil of amassing wealth through dubious means and openly preach against it from the pulpit.
He stated that questionable rich men should not be glorified by the society, particularly the church, adding that they should not be allowed to contribute to church development.
The clergyman decried the high rate of kidnapping, ritual killing and cyber crime all in a bid by youths to acquire illegal wealth, even when many who engaged in unwholesome means of making money never lived to tell the story.
Reverend Eborah charged parents to insist that their children and wards engaged in legitimate ventures under strict supervision and monitoring, as a way of positively changing their mindset for the overall good of the society.
The Anglican priest called on government to provide jobs for the jobless or in the alternative create viable options to meaningfully engage the youth to save them from taking to crime.
He noted that crime was always on the increase at this time of the year and urged the security agencies to live up to their responsibility of ensuring safety of lives and property.
