Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state has charged Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries in the country to maintain the core values of the civil service.
He gave the charge in Asaba on Thursday when the College of Heads of Service of the 36 states of the federation and the FCT paid him a courtesy visit.
Okowa noted that the ideals of the civil service were being lost due to insufficient knowledge of the bureaucracy, which by extension had impacted negatively on the younger generation of civil servants.
The Governor dwelt on the need for training and retraining of civil servants to impart to them the requisite knowledge and values to drive the civil service to the level it would make the desired impact on governance at all levels.
The Acting Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Folashade Yemi-Esan, said the Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries were in Asaba for a conference on how to reposition the civil service for greater efficiency.
