Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state on Health Monitoring, Dr. Michael Nwoko, has called on political leaders and corporate organizations across the state to assist the people in subscribing to the Delta State Contributory Health Scheme (DSCHS).
Dr. Nwoko made the call when he featured on a live programme ” FOCUS ” on Delta Television, Asaba.
He said the call had become necessary as most people in the informal sector were known not to have subscribed to the scheme due to financial constraint.
The SSA, outlining the success recorded so far under the Delta State Contributory Scheme, disclosed that the scheme, a brain child of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, had enrolled over 630,000 persons currently benefiting from it.
He said Delta was rated number one in health sector reform and policies in the country, as it remained the first state to domesticate an improved version of the Federal Government’s National Health Insurance Scheme, with other states keying into the Delta State model of the Health Insurance Scheme.
Dr. Nwoko further stated that there was an urgent need for more people from the informal sector to enrol, as the benefits derivable from the Health Scheme were enormous.
He explained that enrollees could access various levels of healthcare, even without the physical cash to pay for treatment and drugs, thereby taking away the difficulties associated with “out of pocket expenses”
While urging the informal sector operators to enrol for the schem, Dr. Nwoko assured them of quality, accessible and affordable healthcare in any healthcare facility nearest to them, adding that premium for the informal sector plan was Seven Thousand Naira per annum.
