Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has charged his political appointees not to assume to have the knowledge of everything.
He gave the charge in a remark at the 2019 Strategic Executive Retreat holding at the African Institute for Public Policy, Onicha Ugbo, in Aniocha north local government area of the state.
Governor Okowa advised the appointees, particularly the Commissioners, to work closely with the civil servants in their ministries for better implementation of government policies and programmes, adding that they should not act as if they were masters.
The Governor said the Commissioners should regularly seek the inputs of the Permanent Secretaries and Directors in decision making to avoid mistakes.
He said government was a collective responsibility which required collaboration between the political class and the civil servants, stressing that the overall goal was to ensure good governance and make life more meaningful to the people.
Okowa again reminded political office holders that they were appointed to serve the people and must be selfless in their considerations at all times.
The theme of the Executive Retreat is “Defining Pathways To Building A Stronger Delta.”
