Issele-Asagba Mixed Secondary School, Issele Asagba, in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, was thrown into confusion on Monday after eight masked gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen stormed the School and abducted the Principal and four teachers and whisked them away to an unknown destination.
The incident attracted the attention of the Community Youth and Vigilante with the Support of the Nigeria Police Force, and Army, who quickly mobilised to comb all bushes in the Community.
One of the Community Youths, Comrade Williams Ugbo, who spoke to our reporter on phone, stated that the Youths and the Vigilante, with their familiarity with the terrain and combined efforts of security agencies, were able to apprehend two of the suspected Kidnappers and rescue the victims after a fierce gun battle.
According to him, some of the youths and rescued victims sustained gun shot injuries, even as he commended the courage, gallantry and swiftness with which they responded to the distress call.
He thanked God for the rescue of the Kidnap victims and for making the arrest of two of the suspects possible.
Also speaking, Mrs Christy Ojei, blamed the incident on the porous security in the school, which she said was not fenced.
She appealed to the State Government to fence the school, provide adequate security for the staff and students, and equip the Community Vigilante with the needed Security apparatus to fight crime in the locality.
