Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has said selfless service is of essence to every political office holder.

Okowa stated this on Sunday at the First Baptist church, Eku, during a thanksgiving service at the instance of Chief Arthur Akpowowo, who is the State Commissioner for Urban Renewal.

He said the essence of holding political office was to use the office to serve the people.

The Governor congratulated Chief Akpowowo for appreciating that his appointment as a Commissioner was not an act of human, but of God.

Okowa said he would not take glory for any appointment he had made, stressing that what mattered was for the holder of the position to use it to render selfless service to the people, and by extension to God.

He stated that political appointees could only assist others and render selfless service to humanity if guided by the principles of God which required them to love others as themselves.

In a sermon, Reverend Akpotor Eboh, said Christians must always have reasons to thank God because whatever they had and whatever position they occupied came through divine favour.

The cleric said all had sinned and urged people to always seek forgiveness and avoid condemning others, because Jesus shed His blood for sinners.

The thanksgiving service was attended by political office holders and leaders, community leaders and traditional rulers.
