Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, has claimed that kidnappers are now collaborating with some elements of Boko Haram to abduct people for ransom.

El-Rufai stated this on Friday, while addressing State House correspondents, after gunmen abducted six schoolgirls and two staff members from Engravers College, Sabo, Chikun Local Government Area of  Kaduna.state. 

The Governor confirmed that the kidnappers had made contact with the parents of the victims, but refused to disclose the ransom they were demanding.

He described the incident as most unfortunate and tragic, pointing out that the security agencies, including the DSS, the Police, the Nigerian Air Force, and the Army were on the matter,

El-Rufai expressed confidence that not only would his government secure the release of the students and their teachers, but was also going to get the kidnappers.

The Governor said he was being constantly updated on the matter which he hoped would soon be resolved.

He said there had been intelligence reports that bandits had connected with some elements of Boko Haram to be targeting schools to kidnap children.
